Back to Full Blog

Not necessarily in order of significance, the following are American Destinations undiminished over time according to Gecko

#1 Colorado River canyon at Glenwood Springs, Colorado
#2 West Coast beaches of the Big Island of Hawaii
#3 Mammoth Cave National Park, central Kentucky
#4 Snow skiing at Steamboat Springs, Colorado
#5 Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, California
#6 Wild trout fishing on the Newhalen River at Lake Iliamna, Iliamna, Alaska
#7 Specific to The Maid of the Mist, Niagara Falls, NY
#8 Authentic Mexican food, Alamosa, Colorado
#9 Gettysburg National Military Park and Cemetery, Pennsylvania

Can you add Number Ten?

Along with Virginia's Eastern Shore, I would add the Grand Canyon and all of the great national parks of the West. Never have seen them and dearly wish I could.

Whit,
I swear, somebody auto to take you out back and lay in the switch to you.
No just kidding. Everyone can certainly appreciate your answer of Vegas. Good family fun.

Sinann,

I remember doing some real golfing on at Virginia Beach. It is good to hear it hasn't lost its luster down there. Where I grew up in NJ back in the sixties, the Jersey shore was a magnet and on the whole marvelous. However, a recent visit to the most memorable spot of Seaside Height brought horror when I discovered what appeared to be a bombed out section of tourism that mocked the early years I remembered. A beach ghost town.

Sinann,
One park that you might be referring to would be the Rocky Mountain National Park in northern Colorado. The wildlife is undiminished there (but in a different sense than is found in Las Vegas:)) In the RMNP you have the highest paved road in America (nanner, nanner to California) called Trail Ridge Rd.

I had hoped someone would introduce something new, fascinating, and protected from the great spotlights that celebrities can bring to a place.

I would have to agree on the CO locations. The best places to find green chili are the small towns in CO. Pagosa Springs also has some fine food.

Happy Friday to ya'

It's a pleasure to have the Bear come by. You are correct about Pagosa.

Peace~

At least a dozen locations come to mind, but one of special significance is the Methow Valley in the North Cascade Mountain Range in WA State.

Reba and Bella,
You both are too generous. I wish I could spend a greater time to be able to share with the rest of you but time moves too quickly. Thank you.

Sunshine,
So much of the US I have seen
But so much that you mentioned I have not.
Certainly the tundra at Trailridge and what the Coloradoans call the "national divide" (because waters flow either into the Mississippi basin or the Pacific Ocean from there)has been a familiar place. But without seeing Big Sur or the coasts of Washington or Oregon, I am left just thanking you.
